If you area attending CNA Training Hawaii, you must remember that as required by OBRA-87, the Medicaid Agency has the responsibility to establish the curriculum requirements for State certification of Nurse Aide Training Programs (NATPs) and prepare the curriculum of the Competency Evaluation Program in Hawaii.
The Medicaid Agency also determines and oversees, if NATP is qualified to certify a student to work legally in long term care units, hospitals, nursing homes and other health care clinics. After receiving due certification, it is the duty of Office of Heath Care Assurance, which is a State survey agency to find out that the certification as prescribed by the Medicaid Agency have met the Federal OBRA requirements.
CNA Training Hawaii Features
CNA Training Hawaii has duration of 100 hours, which include 30 hours classroom theoretical course instructions based on following topics:
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Infection control
• Safety/emergency procedures, including the Heimlich maneuver;
• Understanding, respecting and promoting residents’ rights and Independence
• Communication and Interpersonal skills
In addition students must also learn about:
• Introduction to the health care delivery system in Hawaii with extra attention to facilities that care for the aged or veterans.
• Proper conduct, language, and dress;
• General preventive health care, which also include controlling the spread of infections and infectious diseases.
The clinical portion of training stretch for 70 hours and conducted in a laboratory or in any other facility, where a student need to practice the skill learned during the classroom instructions. The training is completed under the guidance and supervision of a RN or LPN.
The clinical hands-on training on actual patients features:
• 30 hours basic nursing skills
• 30 hours personal care skills
• 10 hours basic restorative services
The completion of the training programs also allows you to sit for the Hawaii CNA Certification test for Certification.
