NM CNA Classes | General Nursing Skills

Certified Nurse Aides are first line care providers to ailing patients in numerous health care settings, such as hospitals, adult care centers, travel nurse, nursing homes, long term care facility, mental care centers, rehabilitation centers, or as a home health aide. They are also important member of medical team in these facilities, working as a mouth and ear of RN or LPN, constantly reporting these nurses about the condition of patient under their care. They are also needed to execute their nursing duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision of Licensed Nurse.

But, in order to become a certified nurse assistant in New Mexico, it is essential to complete, the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) and federal OBRA-87 approved CNA Training New Mexico, which not only prepare them for the certification but also educate them on basic nursing care skills.

The important feature of CNA training in this state includes, minimum 75 hours of training programs, which comprises of classroom and clinical hand-on trainings. The clinical experience component consists of 16 hours.

It must also be noted that before clinical hands-on training, CNA students are prevented to work with actual residents but after successful completion of classroom training, they are allowed to interact with actual patients. It is the responsibility of the registered or licensed nurse to supervise the programs.
